    Goals / Remit

    The main objectives of the ROAMER project are:

    - To develop an accurate picture of the state-of-art in mental health and wellbeing research in Europe;

    - To analyse gaps and salient advances, so as to establish research priorities and infrastructure and capacity requirements of mental health and wellbeing research in Europe in the short, middle and long-term and as applicable across the life time;

    - The wide involvement of Europe’s leading scientists in the mental health field in a collective endeavour to prioritise mental health and wellbeing research;

    - Full engagement with key non-academic stakeholders in mental health and wellbeing research, including funders, policy makers, professionals, end users, carers and family members;

    - To help to close the gap between science and society;

    - To inform the public about the importance of mental health and wellbeing research and launch the definitive roadmap.

    Potential applications:

    The ROAMER project will have an impact on:

    1.an increase in high quality mental health and well-being research by:

    • Developing and implementing standardised performance indicators and inclusion criteria to identify high quality research
    • Assembling leading consortia for the major areas of mental health and well-being research

    2.its promotion across Europe by:

    • Identifying research gaps and best examples of promotion activities across Europe
    • Developing a comprehensive, consensus-based roadmap, that includes the voices of all stakeholders

    3.its integration in treatment programmes and public health initiatives of promotion and prevention by:

    • Capitalizing on synergy effects created by existing integrative approaches
    • Augmenting this with information about European infrastructures supports and best practices in promotion and funding strategies, to achieve integration not merely among disciplines, but also across geographical regions and the life-course

    ROAMER findings will ultimately be translated into improvements and innovations in mental health care delivery and in strategies to increase the mental health and wellbeing of the population.

    Other financial info

    The ROAMER project has received 1999138 EUR of funding from the European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under
    grant agreement no. 282586, and 106000 EUR from the National R&D
    Internationalization Programme of the Spanish Ministry of
    Science and Technology under reference ACI-PRO-2011-1080

    The amount indicated for the overall budget is the sum of the maximum EC contribution for the entire duration of the ROAMER project (period: October 2011-September 2014), although some months of extension are expected without increasing the budget, and of the budget received from the Spanish Ministry

    Regarding the amount that ROAMER spent during a financial year (2014-2015) representing our interests to the European institutions, we estimate about 400.000-500.000 Euros among the personnels and the organisation of meetings to discuss with EC representives and other stakeholders the action plans proposed in the final roadmap, the printing of official documents, and the organisation of the final meeting to present the final roadmap to the EC.

    The ROAMER [A roadmap for mental health research in Europe] project (FP7/2007-2013/no 282586) aims to develop a comprehensive and integrated mental health research roadmap, orientated to translational research, sensitive to potential shifts in future needs in light of demographic changes, aligned with the policies of the Horizon 2020 programme, and addressing a pragmatic and integrated approach to the development of a pan-European strategy to matching mental health services to needs.

    The process is being inclusive and participatory, incorporating a large diversity of research scientists from many disciplines and also incorporating the view of service users, carers, professionals, as well as policy and funding institutions.
