    Organizational Background

    Project Syndicate constitutes the only truly global forum for informed, high-level debate of the world’s most important issues.

    Project Syndicate began in the early 1990s as an initiative to assist newly independent media in post-communist Central and Eastern Europe, before quickly expanding to Western Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Our rapid growth has been guided by a simple credo: All people – wherever they live, whatever their income, and whatever language they use – deserve equal access to a broad range of views by the world’s foremost leaders and thinkers on the issues, events, and forces shaping their lives.

    Project Syndicate thus provides an invaluable global public good: ensuring that news media in all countries, regardless of their financial and journalistic resources – and often in challenging political environments – can offer readers original, engaging, and thought-provoking analysis by the world’s leading innovators in economics, politics, health, technology, and culture. Indeed, without Project Syndicate, most of the publications we serve would be unable to secure comparable commentaries.

    Moreover, Project Syndicate’s not-for-profit content-distribution model enables it to reach newspapers and other media in the developing world that commercial syndicates ignore or neglect. By offering outlets throughout developing Africa, Asia, and Latin America free or subsidized rights to all 100+ commentaries that it produces each month, PS ensures that the debates it fosters engage readers worldwide.

    Project Syndicate contributors include:

    Statesmen and Stateswomen, including Shinzo Abe, Michelle Bachelet, Ban Ki-moon, Ehud Barak, Gordon Brown, Gro Harlem Brundtland, Jorge Castañeda, Joschka Fischer, Arun Jaitley, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Jean-Claude Juncker, Yuriko Koike, Moon Jae-in, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Hassan Rouhani, Juan Manuel Santos, Javier Solana, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Donald Tusk, and Zhu Min;

    Economists and economic policymakers, including Angus Deaton, Kemal Derviş, Mohamed El-Erian, Arminio Fraga, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Donald Kaberuka, Christine Lagarde, Justin Yifu Lin, Dambisa Moyo, Raghuram Rajan, Wolfgang Schäuble, Robert Shiller, Hans-Werner Sinn, Michael Spence, Joseph Stiglitz, Jean-Claude Trichet, and Laura Tyson;

    Historians, political scientists, and philosophers, including Francis Fukuyama, Sergei Karaganov, Nina Khrushcheva, Bernard-Henri Lévy, Michael Sandel, Peter Singer, and Yan Xuetong; and

    Activists, including Saad Eddin Ibrahim, Ma Jian, Graça Machel, Desmond Tutu, and Xiao Qiang.
