Goals / Remit
Retracer et expliquer les causes, les conséquences, les exemples historiques et les avantages de la liberté religieuse systématiquement appliquée et protégée.
Surveiller l’évolution contemporaine, les tendances et les incidents dans le domaine des droits de l’homme, et initier ou participer à des dialogues et à des actions appropriées en faveur de la promotion et de la protection des droits de l’homme en général, et de la liberté de conscience, de religion et de conviction en particulier.
Rechercher et diffuser des informations correctes, objectives et complètes concernant la situation actuelle de la liberté de conscience, de religion et de conviction dans le monde.
Créer une sensibilisation aux questions relatives à la liberté de religion et de conviction.
Coopérer avec des experts afin de fournir aux autorités politiques, civiles et religieuses des informations concernant les principes de la liberté de religion et de conviction en vue de favoriser leur correcte application.
S’engager dans la promotion des principes de la liberté de conscience, de religion et de conviction avec les autorités gouvernementales, les institutions et les groupes qui nient ou limitent la jouissance de ces droits. Cela inclut des actions judiciaires dans des cas concrets.
Coopérer avec les institutions et les organismes qui suivent des objectifs similaires.
J’aimerais ajouter que notre organisation a été accréditée auprès des Nations Unies à New York et à Genève, en 1978, en catégorie I, et auprès de l’ECOSOC, en 1987, en catégorie II. Elle a été dotée du statut consultatif au Conseil de l’Europe, en 1985.Main EU files targeted
- Contribution to the proposal for the EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT RECOMMENDATION TO THE COUNCIL: the draft EU Guidelines on the Promotion and Protection of Freedom of Religion or Belief (2013/2082 (INI)) adopted by the Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg - PROPOSAL FOR A RECOMMENDATION TO THE COUNCIL B7-0164/ Laima Liucija Andrikien on behalf of the PPE Group.
- Contribution to the proposal regarding Pier Antonio Panzeri Annual Report on human rights and democracy in the world and the European Union’s policy on the matter (2014/2216(INI) Committee on Foreign Affairs.
- The International Association for the Defense of Religious Liberty (AIDLR)’s contribution as member of the European Platform on Religious Intolerance and Discrimination (EPRID), both entities sent a letter to the MEP regarding the vote on the “Annual report on Human Rights and Democracy in the World 2013 and the European Union's policy on the matter” (2014/2216(INI) - A8-0023/2015) by Mr Pier Antonio Panzeri.
- The AIDLR - member and co-founder of EPRID – together with the latter, expressed from its beginning in the document “EPRID at COHOM” that: “The EU’s Guidelines on The Promotion and Protection of Freedom of Religious and Belief represents a significant milestone in the EU’s recognition of its need to export this cross-cutting human right”.
In this context, concretely the AIDLR co-organized with the Associatia Constiinta si Libertate and the Comission of Human Rights of Romanian Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, the special event held at the Romanian Parliament in October 2014 on Legislation, Human Rights and Freedom of Religion.
- The AIDLR answered to the EP Intergroup invitation and contributed by participating in the EP Initiatives on European Parliament on Freedom of Religion or Belief Intergroup and Religious Tolerance (EP Intergroup on FoRB & RT) and the United States Commission on the International Religious Freedom on State of Freedom of Religion or Belief in the World, on June 3, 2015.
- The AIDLR has launched a special training session on human rights and freedom of religion, for government, parliament, diplomatic, religious, civil society representatives based on topics such as non-discrimination, violence, freedom of religion, freedom of expression, changing of religion, manifestation, etc.
First sessions and conferences at the level of universities (Madrid in 2014) and at the level of the UN in Geneva (June 2014) having as co-sponsors from the EU, the delegations of Norway, Spain, the Council of Europe, along with Canada and Uruguay.
- The AIDLR -together with EPRID- is organizing on December 10, 2015 at the European Parliament, a side event on human rights and freedom of religion, among the guests will be: the special rapporteur of UN Heiner Bielefeldt and the co-presidents pf WG on FoRB, MEP Denis De Jong and Peter Van Dalen.Address

Communication activities
In 2014, AIDLR organized two big events: 1/ At the University of Madrid in January 2014 and 2/ at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, with stakeholders from international, regional and national level.
Participated: representatives from the UN, EU, CoE, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Spain, former Prime Minister of Romania, many scholars, religious leaders, international NGOs, students. We invited a representative from the European Parliament who joined both of the events.
Topics of the events : 1/ Worldwide Human Rights and religious freedom – 2/ Religious liberty and religious minorities.
AIDLR co-organized a third event with the Association Constiinta si Libertate at the Romanian Parliament in October 2014.Other activities
