Goals / Remit
In Germany, the core activities of the German Red Cross (GRC) focus on welfare and social work, health programmes, including the provision of first aid and ambulance services, national level disaster preparedness, youth work and public advocacy on humanitarian issues. GRC is a member of the Federal Working Group of Voluntary Welfare Organisations (BAGFW). GRC has a federal structure with 19 regional branches, 463 district branches, 4.096 local branches, 31 nurses associations, 1 federation of nurses associations, 6 blood transfusion centers (1,5 Mio. blood donators). Various GRC activities are implemented by the 430,846 volunteers and 183.684 staff members. More than 2,7 Mio GRC members support the organisation. As a national aid organisation and auxiliary to the government, GRC is part of the International Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, which provides a worldwide network for operations. With 192 National Societies, the movement is the largest humanitarian organisation worldwide.

For the calculation of the 'annual costs related to activities covered by the Register' for the year 2020, we have now used a rough estimate cost for all operational and policy departments such as International cooperation, International law and institutions; Complex Relief Service, Voluntary Service and Crisis Management, who are working in EU register related areas. -
