EPI Interim Company is opgericht in oktober 2020 in het kader van het European Payments Initiative ("EPI"), dat gericht is op het ontwerp, de invoering en de uitrol van een pan-Europees betalingssysteem. EPI IC heeft de ambitie een betaaloplossing te ontwerpen en te creëren die voor Europese consumenten en handelaren een nieuw standaardbetaalmiddel zal worden voor in-store en on-linetransacties, opneming van contanten en "peer-to-peer"-betalingen.
