    Goals / Remit

Founded in 1992, the European Association of Economic Development Agencies brings together professionals working on economic development in Europe. Through our large network of 80 members in 23 countries of the European Union and beyond; regional development agencies (RDAs), and their economic development practitioners can network, advocate, and participate at a European Union wide level.

A Development Agency is an entity that carries out an economic development mission characterised by the search of the collective or overall interest of an area (and not corporative or sectorial), and that is significantly linked with a local, metropolitan or regional authority with respect to management, financing or missions.

A Development Agency is a designated public meeting place and support for local economic actors with a dynamic structure oriented to support consolidated enterprises and potential entrepreneurs. EURADA is their international well established facility allowing interaction with other peers of regional economic development across Europe and beyond. This meeting place and space created by EURADA and dependent on its members engagement offers opportunities.

EURADA, as a network and connector, offers opportunities to all forms of economic development practitioner embedded in development agencies, private business partners, corporations and European institutions. By bringing together highly skilled professionals, who answer the specific needs of firms, EURADA plays a role in Europe’s economic growth and job creation.

    Communication activities

The annual biggest conference of the year is AGORADA that takes place o exchange best practices among the members and establish direct contacts with new initiatives from the European Commission. The last Agorada2018 was related to Industry4.0 and was organised in Charleroi in cooperation with IGRETEC, SOGEPA abd CDH. Th eevent gather the participation of the ReConfirm initiative and the Watify campaign of the European Commission (DG GROW). Every utumn takes place Agorada+, in one of the members' territory to discuss and see in practices successful implementations of regional economic policies. Agorada+2018 takes place in Oviedo about Open Innovation in cooperation with IDEPA

EURADA also organised a brokerage event in January-February to help the members and any other development agencies of Europe to find suitable partners for their project ideas. Most of the project ideas are connected to the call peer learning for innovation agencies (H2020-INNOSUP-05). A summer course on the first week of July helps the member to acquire the skills to prepare successful proposals for H2020, Interreg and other competitive progams

Offering an insight to EU policymaking is not limited to solely innovation in SMEs, rather EURADA is also present and active in informing its members on developments and opportunities concerned with financial instruments for development agencies. Having already co-organised a workshop in February 2018 for European Industry Week on the subject of EFSI platforms, where professionals working on regional economic development projects and their financing in Europe discussed inter-regional investments facilitated by the new Investment Platforms under the ‘Junker Plan’, EURADA provides updates on the acitivites that development agencies carry out to provide funds to projects and companies using revovling funds and guarantees.

EURADA’s participates as partner in two H2020 (OaSIS and TeRRItoria), and in three Interreg Europe (SocialSeeds, Beyond EDP and ESSPO). Those projects help facilitate the exchange of knowledge on support for SMEs, improves policymaking in SME policy instruments embedded in EU territories, and refines EU Research and Innovation Strategies (RIS3) to join up different economic actors with an aim of increasing innovation. The European Association participates as well in European tenders and service contracts that make valuable contributions to its members International Urban Cooperation programme to establish regional pairings in RIS3 with Latin America, the Watify campaign of the European Commission on Industrial modernization, the ReConfirm initiative to establish co-investment agreements among regions and DIHelp to establish a better management of Digital Innovation Hubs.

    Other activities

Each year the Board of Directors of the Association defines the priorities of work to focus the impact of the activities of the association and to organise the activities of the association. During 2018 there are 4 vertical priorities (technology innovation, finance, new industries and cohesion policy), and an horizontal priority that lead to the innovation inside of the agencies to be more efficient.

EURADA works across a spectrum of thematic priorities. From arranging critical matchmaking opportunities for the development agencies of Europe, to following the latest policy developments in regional development at an EU level, EURADA’s engagement and time is always dedicated to following, and organized by, the pre-defined priorities of its Board Members.

Innovation in SMEs is a core activity of development agencies, and therefore, it is a core activity for EURADA. Representing 99% of all businesses in the EU, the SME’s role in fostering an innovation focused economy is a priority of the EU. Afterall, a broad base of SMEs is very important for the economic development, wealth and sustainability of a region. At the European wide level, there is a drive to help create a business-friendly environment and boost SMEs' competitiveness on a regional level. EURADA is therefore involved in several aspects of EU initiatives and undertakings to help SMEs.
