Goals / Remit
TO enter into dialogue with European Institutions to ensure that the principles of multilingualism are respected.
TO promote education for plurilingual competence through translingual and linguistic mediation practices.
TO support language technologies for a multilingual Europe and provide information necessary so that no language becomes digitally extinct.
TO facilitate theoretically informed discussions on issues regarding multilingualism.
TO create conditions, especially between the CURUM constituency members, for joint research projects and exchange of data, materials and good practices in areas on issues regarding multilingualism – especially with regard to languages in society and education.
TO provide members and institutions, networks, organisations, individuals and groups with information and news about ECSPM events, activities and social actions.
TO share and promote good practices on issues regarding language education.Main EU files targeted
ACTIVITIES aiming at supporting EU legislative proposals or policies targeted, including:
-THE 2008 multilingualism policy (COM 2008), Brussels, 16.7.2008.
-THE 2014-2020 Strategy for Education (Commission COMM (2012) 669 final, Strasbourg, 20.11.2012)ERASMUS+ initiatives.
-CONCLUSIONS on multilingualism and the development of language competences, Council meeting, Brussels, 20 May 2014.
-RECOMMENDATION on improved language teaching and learning (5/2/2018).
-COUNCIL Recommendation on a comprehensive approach to the teaching and learning of languages.
-RECOMMENDATIONS about school education as described in School Education Gateway and about multilingual classrooms as recommended by the Council of Europe.
-SUPPORTING multilingual Europe through.
o The European Language Grid (ELG) as the primary platform and marketplace for the European language technology community, both industry and research.
o The European Language Resource Coordination (ELRC) which manages, maintains and coordinates the relevant language resources in all official languages of the EU and CEF associated countries, so as to help improve the quality, coverage and performance of automated translation solutions in the context of current and future CEF digital services in various domains such as natural language processing, social sciences and humanities.

Complementary Information
The President works half time. The the General Secretary works 75%. The Executive Committee and our members devote time and energy for the events we organise without financial compensation. The annual symposia, are hosted by different universities around Europe each year, take up more time for that particular member. The symposia are funded by the host university each time.
