Glyphosate Renewal Group (GRG)
EU Transparency Register

Goals / Remit
The Glyphosate Renewal Group (GRG) is a collection of companies seeking the renewal of the EU authorisation of the active substance glyphosate in 2022. To this end, the Glyphosate Renewal Group’s member companies join resources and efforts to prepare a single dossier with all the scientific studies and information on the safety of glyphosate. The Glyphosate Renewal Group changed its name from Glyphosate Task Force 2 at the end of 2019 to avoid confusion with previous glyphosate submissions. The EU Implementing Regulation N. 844/2012 provides for the possibility to have associations of producers submitting joint dossiers for the renewal of the authorisation of active substances. The establishment of task forces is a common practice across different sectors. Their purpose is in particular to avoid duplication of animal testing. Additionally, a task force setting allows a more efficient process for both the applicants and the regulators, i.e. the regulator does not need to ask the same question to every applicant individually and the task force members can share the very high costs associated with a renewal process. GRG was established in 2019 to seek the renewal of the EU authorisation of glyphosate in 2022 by submitting a joint scientific dossier. However, GRG is not a legal entity, but it is a de facto collection of enterprises. Therefore, whereas the EU Transparency Register requires to indicate a person with legal responsibility for GRG, this requirement would not be applicable for GRG.
Main EU files targeted
GRG is established for the sole purpose of engaging in the regulatory process foreseen under Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009, specifically relating to the renewal of the EU approval for the active substance glyphosate.
While policy and legislation such as Directive 2009/128/EC on the sustainable use of pesticides and the refit of Regulation (EU) No. 1107/2009 and Regulation (EU) No. 396/2005 are of relevance to GRG member companies, the scope of GRG activity is restricted to the EU regulatory process covering the assessment of glyphosate.Address
