Goals / Remit
IETM is an international network for contemporary performing arts: a large, respected international network of professional organisations with a 33 year track record of dynamic and effective facilitation of collaboration in contemporary performing arts.
It is a membership organisation, which exists to stimulate the quality, development and contexts of contemporary performing arts in a global environment, by initiating and facilitating professional networking and communication, the dynamic exchange of information, know-how-transfer and presentations of examples of good practice.

IETM is the network for professional organisations involved in the contemporary performing arts in Europe and beyond. This is broadly defined as including contemporary theatre, dance, music, visual arts, installation and performance, writing, architecture, film and video, new technology and emerging art and media forms.
IETM consists of over 500 subscribing professional performing arts organisations from 50 countries. They are engaged in innovative, contemporary performance work and are committed to cross-border artistic exchange and collaboration as well as to improving the conditions and scope of the sector.Main EU files targeted
IETM received within the Creative Europe program subsidy for its Network project ''Performing arts ( in a world) in Transition'' and is a partner in the CE cooperation project Creative lenses. Both projects aim to strengthen the contemporary arts field with new knowledge and expertise on sustainable management structures, audience/partnership relations and the use of digital technologies.
IETM is a main actor in the internationalisation of the contemporary performing arts field and an ambassador for the sector in several arena's. It seeks the dialogue with national and European policy makers, and monitors the development of new programs on the inclusion of paragraphs on culture and arts.Address

Since we consider all our activities as linked to EU policy, all people in the Secretariat are included: Secretary General as main advocate for culture, the project managers of Research and publications ( on CE focus points ), of Meetings ( trainings and debates on CE focus points) , the Admin ( financial admin EU projects ) and Communications department. coordinator( diffusing info on EU policies) etc.

Communication activities
Engaging itself in multilateral alliances with other organisations, sectors and networks, IETM develops five programme lines to augment knowledge and know-how, to develop new strategies and to test results.
1. Sustainable MODELS.
- create awareness, discuss values to protect;
- provide tools and training in analysis and benchmarking of entrepreneurial models;
- provide tools and training in innovative management strategies;
- map and disseminate information on existing ‘neighbouring’ resources for cultural mobility, capacity building and help to create new ones (1st cash stream);
- organise workshops on the creation of a supportive community (2nd cash stream);
- collect and disseminate good practices in the use of alternative strategies incl. digital strategies (3rd cash stream);
- monitor a few identified organisations.
2. Measurable IMPACT.
- discuss values to be measured and indicators to be formulated with policy makers/ funders and arts organisations;
- research and compare existing monitoring systems for the non-economical impact of contemporary performing arts;
- provide tools and training in self-assessment;
- organise workshops on the development of audience participation;
- collect and disseminate good practices, tools and skills to improve performance;
- monitor a few identified organisations.
3. Live arts in DIGITAL times
- collect and analyse programmes and good practices in the liaisons between live arts and digital technologies (in creation, communication, dissemination, audience development, archiving and mobility);
- offer training, tools and skills for the use of digital technology in all above-mentioned areas especially in relation to dissemination and audience development.
4. Worldwide CONNECTIONS
- organise meetings in regions with high potential professionals for whom the meeting directly impacts on their local and international opportunities;
- facilitate artistic programmes, presenting the national field to gatekeepers who would never have seen these artists elsewhere, thus enhancing international careers;
- provide travel bursaries to the financially weak to visit meetings;
-build strong connections with emerging sectors in and outside Europe;
- connect and collaborate with other networks to increase efficiency and the distribution of output;
- feed back to European arts field with mappings, reports and good practices.
5. Professional CAPACITIES
- a staff-exchange programme, both within the membership of the network and cross-sectorial;
- IETMCampus, a one-week summer school for young performing arts professionals.Other activities
IETM advocates for an EU based on humanist values and human and cultural rights, with regard to arts and cultural organisations in general and contemporary performing arts in particular. Our membership includes a majority of non-profit organisations but also a limited number of SME for-profits and public institutions at local, regional, national and supranational levels. We use our expertise to support developments in several EU policy areas, the EU culture and education programmes of course, but also cultural or cultural exchange elements of international affairs, development, justice and home affairs, employment and social policy, enterprise, media, environment, science, research, ....any policies or programmes which may touch on arts and culture.
