Goals / Remit
The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) is an international non‐governmental organisation serving and protecting uprooted people, refugees, internally displaced persons and migrants, regardless of faith, race, ethnicity or nationality. The ICMC office in Brussels supports the ICMC Headquarters and advances the rights of refugees and migrants. ICMC Europe co-manages the European Resettlement Network (www.resettlement.eu) together with IOM and UNHCR and implements the SHARE programme which works towards a European network of cities and regions involved in/or with a commitment to refugee resettlement, protection and integration. ICMC Europe is also engaged in policy building and networking with civil society in the area of migration and development and as such, implements the MADE-Migration and Development Civil Society Programme which aims to strengthen civil society’s role in advocacy and work with governments to improve conditions under which migrants move, live and work.
Over the last years ICMC Europe, has implemented a dense agenda of policy building and advocacy, project implementation and project development.
Both advocacy and programmes are interrelated and focus on the following themes:
- Expanding legal access for refugees and migrants through humanitarian visas, student visas, humanitarian admission programmes, community based sponsorships, family reunification and mainstream legal migration channels;
- Strengthening refugee reception and integration particularly at local levels, ensuring more equal distribution within national territories, though civil society – local authorities partnerships to ensure suitable housing and integration programmes and ensuring acceptance and a welcoming environment for refugees;
- Connecting existing initiatives in the area of migration and development and increasing involvement of European civil society partners in policy-making in that area.Main EU files targeted
