Communication activities
-Phosphorus removal and recovery from wastewater
-Water reuse
-Circular economy (phosporus removal, recycled fiber, water reuse)Other activities
- In 2013, responding to Commission’s consultative communication on the sustainable use of phosphorus (COM(2013) 517 final. Kemira also published a position paper on sustainable use and recovery of phosphorus
- In 2014, responding to EU's public consultation on water reuse. Kemira also published a position paper on water reuse which looks at the importance of water reuse for the European Union, and highlights Kemira’s knowledge and credentials in water treatment. We are dedicated to water reuse, and want to partner with European institutions and stakeholders to address this topic. Water reuse is a part of integrated water management, and is technically possible to achieve already today, but harmonized EU level business/regulatory drivers are lacking. To ensure public health and environmental safety, we must standardize the quality of reused water, but not the technology to achieve it. The EU must facilitate innovation in water reuse, while considering the origin and destination of reused water – in short, the right quality for the right purposes.
-in 2015, responding to EU's public consultation on circular economy. To accelerate the uptake of the reuse and recycling of raw materials in Europe, Kemira is calling for a holistic approach, which should be a combination of regulatory, economic and societal drivers. The Circular Economy position paper demonstrates Kemira´s current contribution to the circular economy, which can be evidenced in our customer offerings on driving resource efficiency, its operations and sourcing. In the paper, Kemira provides examples of the need for policies to drive resource efficiency in three specific customer solutions: water recycling and reuse, fiber recovery and reuse, and phosphorus recovery and reuse.
In 2017, Kemira has contributed through INCOPA to the evaluation of the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive 91/271/EEC and to the fitness check of the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC and to the Floods
Directive (2007/60/EC)- Meetings
