    Goals / Remit

The statutory objectives of the Foundation include promotion, support and protection of human rights, democracy and rule of law in the post-Soviet area and in the EU area, particularly Eastern European countries. The Foundation pursues its goals through the organisation of observation missions, including election observation and monitoring of the human rights situation in the post-Soviet countries. Significant areas of the Foundation's activities also include support programmes for political prisoners and refugees. Based on these activities, the Foundation creates reports and distributes them among the institutions of the EU, the CoE, the OSCE, the UN and other international organisations, foreign ministries and parliaments, think-tanks, media and CSOs.

In addition to observational and analytical activities, the Foundation is actively engaged in cooperation with members of parliaments involved in foreign affairs, human rights and relationships with the countries of the post-Soviet region, in order to support the process of democratisation and liberalisation of internal policies in the post-Soviet area. Particular attention of the Foundation is focused on the largest countries of the region: Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. The Foundation also follows democratic reforms and human rights violations in Moldova and Azerbaijan, as well as the integrity of the rule of law and the judiciary in EU member States like Poland.

The Foundation is funded by donations and grants from individuals, companies and institutions, both Polish and international.

    Other activities

The Open Dialogue Foundation (ODF) has been actively involved in providing key EU stakeholders with independent analysis of the situation relative to the democracy/fundamental rights/rule of law area in the post-Soviet region countries, mainly Ukraine, Moldova, Russia and Kazakhstan, as well as EU countries like Poland.

ODF has actively supported the organisation of a number of conferences and hearings in the EP, organised by inter alia the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) on the above-mentioned issues.

ODF has also participated, as speaker, in events organised both inside and outside of the EP by organisations involved in promoting similar values and working on common areas of interest.

ODF has organised a number of meetings between MEPs and interested EU parties and representatives of the civil society from Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia, fostering direct exchange of experiences and an open dialogue.
