    Goals / Remit

R3 is an enterprise blockchain software firm working with a broad ecosystem of more than 300 members and partners across multiple industries from both the private and public sectors to develop on Corda, its open-source blockchain platform, and Corda Enterprise, a commercial version of Corda for enterprise usage.

Operating in thirteen countries from all regions of the world, the R3 team is made up of financial industry veterans, technologists, and new tech entrepreneurs, bringing together expertise from electronic financial markets, cryptography and digital currencies.

    Main EU files targeted

R3 is actively contributing to the conversation around Distributed Ledger Technology (or Blockchain Technology). As the technology is still developing, there are few initiatives, policies, or legislative files on the topic. However, the ones that we are currently focused on are:

    - European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA): The Distributed Ledger Technology Applied to Securities Markets
    - European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs: Draft Report on FinTech: the influence of technology on the future of the financial sector”

Moreover, as a consortium, the majority of which is highly regulated financial institutions, that is designing solutions to be used in the financial markets, a large number of regulations are of interest to R3 including MiFID2/MiFIR, EMIR, and Basel III.
