    Goals / Remit

Founded in 2006 in Zürich, Switzerland, the Round Table on Responsible Soy Association (RTRS) is a global multi-stakeholder non-profit organization promoting the growth of production, trade, and use of responsible soy through cooperation with those in, and related to, the soy value chain, from production to consumption, in an open multi-stakeholder dialogue including producers, suppliers, manufacturers, retailers, financial institutions, civil society organizations and other relevant actors.

RTRS also sets the standards for responsible soy and chain of custody. Particularly the RTRS Standard for Responsible Soy Production scheme ensures that RTRS soy not only meets the highest environmental criteria (including a guarantee of third party-verified zero deforestation and zero conversion) but also a wide-reaching set of social and labor requirements.

RTRS was invited by Wood to participate in the Interview on deforestation and forest degradation associated with products placed on the EU market.
The European Commission has contracted Wood, together with Trinomics, Ricardo, WCMC, Tyrsky and Wageningen University, to undertake a study on EU policy on forest products and deforestation, with the aim of conducting an impact assessment which will inform options for additional demand-side measures and further action to increase supply chain transparency and minimise the risk of deforestation and forest degradation associated with products placed on the EU market. The study has been ongoing since May 2020 and will be completed in March 2021 and follows on from the recently published Communication on stepping up EU Action to Protect and Restore the World’s Forests.

RTRS participated in the Public Consultation Deforestation and Forest Degradation – Reducing the Impact of Products Placed on the EU Market 2snd December 2020.

RTRS participated in the first meeting of the new “Multi-Stakeholder Platform on Protecting and Restoring the World’s Forests” held on October 2, 2020.
