    Goals / Remit

SOS Children's Villages is a Federation of 118 member associations, operating in over 138 countries - including 22 EU Member States. SOS Children's Villages is a non-governmental and non-denominational child rights organisation.
Almost 70 years of experience in this field have given us a deep understanding of how to care for children until they become independent thriving adults, and great expertise in preventing the breakdown of parental care.
We have developed a robust comprehensive approach ranging from programmes to strengthen families, to the promotion of quality alternative care for children and social and economic support for children aging out of care. We work in close partnership with donors, governments, communities and other organisations, and our strategy until 2030 aims at ensuring that no child is left behind and grows up alone.

    Main EU files targeted

SOS Children’s Villages advocates for the rights of children without parental care or at risk of losing parental care. We are making sure that their voices are heard and represented at EU level. We focus on children’s rights and protection, tackling child poverty and social exclusion, prevention of family separation, quality family and community based alternative care, support for care leavers and child and youth participation.
We contributed to EU initiatives that are relevant for child rights such as the European Child Guarantee, the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child, the MFF, the European Pillar of Social Rights, the European Semester, etc.
We also support SOS programme and funding strategy development from an EU perspective, capacity development and we provide EU funding application writing support.

The list below only covers meetings held since November 2014 with commissioners, their cabinet members or directors-general at the European Commission; other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may have taken place, but the European Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. For more information about which commissioner is responsible for which portfolio, check out this link: https://commissioners.ec.europa.eu/index_en All information below comes from European Commission web pages.

1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
