Goals / Remit
SALLY ry is the official representative body of medical doctors in Finland who practice anthroposophic medicine. Anthroposophic medicine integrates conventional medicine with the anthroposophic perception of the human being. It starts with a conventional diagnosis, but includes in its assessment of the patient the imbalances of the body and a psychological, mental and spiritual dimension. It takes a holistic approach to health and offers specific therapies enhanced according to anthroposophic principles. It uses both conventional and anthroposophic medicinal products. Both the treatment approach and the use and selection of medicinal products and other therapies are highly individualised and intend to bring about a ‘process of development’ within the patient, reinforcing the patient’s natural self-healing ability.
The mission of SALLY includes:
1. to provide information about actual developments in anthroposophic medicine, organize training events and conferences.
2. to connect with international associations in the field of anthroposophic medicine, integrative medicine and complementary medicine (CAM).
3. to safeguard the legal status of anthroposophic medicine in Finland, including the availability of anthroposophic medicinal products (AMPs) and the accessibility of other anthroposophic treatments including art therapies, eurythymy therapy and other treatments which belong to the anthroposophic medical system.
4. to safeguard pluralism in medicine with regard to the rights of patients to use the treatment of their choices and the right of doctors to offer the best available treatment for their patients.Main EU files targeted
Our organization is the professional body of physicians with special skills in Anthroposophic Medicine and an active member of the International Federation of Anthroposophic Medical Assocations IVAA (www.ivaa.info) which gives continuously input to European decision making on all levels via responses to consultations, organizing events in the European Parliament (CAM-conference 2012), meetings with MEPs and publication of posititon papers. Part of the political activities IVAA coordinates withe EUROCAM www.cam-europe.eu. SALLY gives regularly input to this IVAA and EUROCAM activities, so in general our contributions covered by these European NGOs. However, there are situations, where direct input from the national view is demanded. An example was the respond from the national member state level to the Public consultation of DG SANCO on EU Action Plan against Antimicrobial Resistance in 2016.
Our organization is prepared to share our points of view as Finnish medical doctors with special experience in Anthroposophic Medicine in EU Commission consultations, whenever a national perspective is appropriate and especially asked for.
A particular point of interest ist the work for adequate legislation and regulation of Anthroposophic Medicinal Products (AMPs). The current EU-legislation (see DIRECTIVE 2001/83/EC; DIRECTIVE 2004/24/EC; COM(2008) 584) is still not satisfactory for this group of medicines and the implementation on the Finnish national level (for example of Art.16.2 of DIR2001/83/EC) is insufficient to safeguard the availability of AMPs for Finnish citizens.
Other areas of interest is to put forward research in the field of complementary/integrative medicine and integrative healthcare as proposed by the CAMbrella-project which was performed within the FP7- program 2010-2012. An example for this sort of activity was the foundation of the Finnish Forum for Research in Integrative Medicine and Healthcare (SILF) in 2014 www.integrative-medicine.fi (see below)Address

A major initiative of SALLY was the initiation of the "Finnish Forum for Integrative Medicine (Suomen Integratiivisen Lääketieteen Foorumi, SILF) in 2014 (www.integrative-medicine.fi). The purpose of the Forum is to inform about the development of Integrative medicine wordlwide and in Europe. The Forum is intended to act via the Internet portal, giving information about research, universities and health care institutions and organizations in the field of Integrative medicine in Europe. In addition, the Forum intends to inspire and promote research in the field of Integrative Medicine in Finland and link Finnish research initatives to international and European platforms. Furthermore, the Forum aims to open the discussion on the value of Integrative Medicine public health care and medicine for the benefit of the Finnish people. To achieve these goals the Forum collaborates with universities, research institutions and organizations in the field of Integrative Medicine in Europe and worldwide.
On 13 November 2015 the Forum organized in close co-operation with the university of Tampere a seminar on CAM-research with more than 400 participants where amongst other issues the results of the European CAMbrella project www.cambrella.eu were presented and propagated. At the moment there are several research projects and doctoral theses in preparation where the prevalence, the reasons for the the use of complementary and the outcome will be evaluated from demographic, social and health political views.Other activities
