Goals / Remit
IAVI is a nonprofit scientific research organization that develops vaccines and antibodies for HIV, tuberculosis, emerging infectious diseases (including COVID-19), and neglected diseases such as snakebite. Our mission is to translate scientific discoveries into affordable, globally accessible public health solutions.
IAVI conducts scientific, clinical, socio-behavioural and policy research in Africa, India, Europe, and the U.S., and accelerates scientific discovery and development by fostering unique collaborations among academia, industry, local communities, governments, and funders to explore new and better ways to address public health threats that disproportionately affect people living in poverty. We advocate for political and financial support for Global Health R&D, for incentives to facilitate international and public-private R&D collaborations, and for policies across the R&D continuum to facilitate equitable access to affordable biomedical interventions.Main EU files targeted
IAVI’s advocacy and outreach activities focus on increasing awareness of and support for global health R&D, and particularly vaccine R&D, within EU partnerships and institutions. Our main focus has been on the newly launched EU Research Framework for Research and Innovation (Horizon Europe) and on the new EU-Africa Global Health Partnership. We have submitted official responses to public consultation on Horizon Europe, the EU-Africa Global Health Partnership and the EU Global Health Strategy, and have worked closely with DSW, a non-profit organization which advocates for increased attention for global health and development issues. However, we have not directly lobbied for any specific legislative or policy changes (for example, by engaging with MEPs or proposing questions or resolutions in parliament).
