    Goals / Remit

    Lithuanian Consumers Alliance (in Lithuanian, Vartotojų aljansas), established in 2012, unifies 13 consumer associations: Lithuanian Consumer Association, Lithuanian Consumer Union, Consumer Rights Protection Centre, Lithuanian Association of Bank Customers, Lithuanian Citizens Advice Union, National Association of Financial Services Consumers, Association “For Honesty in Banking”, Mažeikiai Consumer Association, Consumer Rights Institute, Consumer Dispute Arbitrage, FiKVA – the Finance and Credit Management Association, Insurance Policyholders Association, APGIDA – the Personal Privacy Protection and Data Security Association.
    The main goal of the Alliance is to represent the interest of Lithuanian consumer association’s interests in governmental institutions, business structures and non-governmental sector on the national and international level.

    Main EU files targeted

    In order to achieve its goals the alliance works in these main areas:
    Participates in the preparation of legal acts related to consumer protection and suggests proposals on how to improve the consumer rights’ protection system. Members of the alliance take part in various Govt. set forums, e.g. Council of consumer rights protection (advisory institution to the Ministry of Justice), similar Council set by the Central Bank of the Republic of Lithuania; Payments Board at the Ministry of Finance; National Climate Change Committee at the Ministry of Environment, etc.
    Cooperates with non-governmental organizations, business associations, and academia.
    Seeks to create an alternative dispute resolution framework and to participate in EU alternative dispute resolutions in activities of the association.
    Conducts research and training.
    Disseminates consumer rights related news and organizes policy conferences and seminars.
    Advocates for a consumer-friendly legal framework by initiating or joining public campaigns with other national or European NGOs.
    Represents Alliance members and Lithuanian consumers’ interests in governmental institutions, courts, non-governmental organizations also in international organizations and other institutions.
    Members of the Alliance represent consumer interests in EU bodies, for example in the European Consumer Consultative Group and various stakeholders/expert groups: several groups at the ESA's as well as the Payment Systems Market Expert Group (at DG FISMA).
    The Alliance represents Lithuania at the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC).
