    Reimbursement of certain specific and actual travel and subsistence expenses received from EU institutions - principally European Rail Agency in relation to participation as Chairof the Agency's Administrative Board but also for speaking at workshops and conferences convened by European Commission, Economic & Social Committee and European Parliament.

    Christopher Irwin was appointed Head of the UK delegation to the Franco-British Intergovernmental Commission on the Fixed Link by the UK Secretary of State for Transport for a three year period from 17th September 2012 on the advice of the Office of Rail Regulation. The IGC is the body created under the Treaty of Canterbury to supervise the construction and operation of the Channel Tunnel. It is the Safety Authority and the Independent Rail Regulator for the Fixed Link. It is expected that these tasks absorb around 70 working days a year, for which he is employed by the ORR at a gross daily rate of £600.
