    Goals / Remit

In a thriving democracy, people can form and contest ideas online, free from exploitation, manipulation, discrimination, and harassment. Yet the spread of mis- and dis-information online shows the risks that the current design and governance of the online information ecosystem can pose to the health of individuals, society, and democracy.

Digital Action’s contribution to helping democracies thrive is to build cohesion among civil society around their ideas for reforming the digital world. But change will take sustained and complex collaboration to bring it about. Our contribution is not to be the experts or the spokespeople. It is to help civil society unlock that collaboration so it builds shared ideas and collective strength that transform the digital world. By not taking policy positions or seeking public profile, we establish our credibility as an honest broker for collective action, interested in releasing the collaborative potential of civil society.

    Main EU files targeted

Digital Action has acted in collaboration with partners to coordinate research and policy development in relation to the proposed Digital Services Act, and European Democracy Action Plan.

    Communication activities

Digital Action primarily works to enable collaboration in civil society. When partner organisations identify opportunities, we assist to coordinate their efforts with others, to develop shared understanding, and to include marginalised voices.

Digital Action assisted in coordinating partners’ positions on algorithm inspection, and assisted them in sharing their expertise through an open letter addressed to Commission Breton, Vice President Jourová, and Commissioner Reynders.

Having assisted coordination in monitoring of digital disruption to the European Parliament Elections, upon request from officials from the European Commission, we assisted partners in compiling their research into a joint evidence paper.
