    Goals / Remit

EJF’s vision is for a world where natural habitats can sustain and be sustained by the communities directly dependent upon them. EJF believes environmental security is a human right and the health, security and protection of our natural world is essential to all human-kind. EJF investigates and produces high-impact films and reports; partners grassroots defenders; and advocates for change amongst the public, business and public policy. EJF works to:
    ● Defend marine environments, biodiversity and human rights from illegal and unsustainable fishing, marine pollution and loss of coastal habitats.
    ● Provide practical support to environmental defenders, using film to share their message.
    ● Secure protection for climate refugees and mitigate global heating and deforestation.
    ● Reduce the impact of global supply chains, investment and consumption on the environment and human rights.
    ● Create stronger governance, due diligence and transparency to protect our natural world.

    Main EU files targeted

EJF has been working to support a harmonised and effective implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No 1005/2008 on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. This includes work on other EU Regulations that are directly relevant to the effective implementation of the IUU Regulation, in particular the Regulation on the sustainable Management of the external fleet (2017/2403) and the Control Regulation (1224/2009). EJF supports the work of the LDAC on fisheries policy.

EJF has also been working in support of the EU Directive 2011/36/EU on preventing and combating trafficking in human beings and protecting its victims.

EJF is working to raise the issue of climate refugees with EU policymakers and our work on climate mitigation and the Blue Economy will contribute to the EU Commission's commitment on the Green New Deal.

EJF is currently implementing two separate projects in Ghana and Liberia with funding from EuropeAid; complementing the EU's commitment to the SDG's.

EJF provides input to consultations, most recently / currently on Deforestation and Forest Products Impact Assessment; Consultation Document Proposal for an Initiative on Sustainable Corporate Governance; and the Strategy for Textiles.
