i) The donation from Vitalik Buterin was provided in a minor cryptocurrency, and due to illiquidity and price drops, the actual liquidated amount that FLI ultimately ended up with was much smaller than the nominal end-of-year value listed above. The vast majority of these received funds have been donated to other non-profit organizations. FLI currently holds no cryptocurrency.

ii) The euro value of the Vitalik Buterin donation shown here is our best estimate of the dollar value at the time of donation, converted to Euros using the exchange rate of December 31, 2021. FLI converted this asset to dollars at a significantly lower average price than it held on the donation date.

iii) In addition to the large donations listed in this filing, we received scores of smaller one-off and recurring grassroots donations. FLI has received over 1,500 donations since it was founded in 2014.

iv) The financial figures displayed here are for the Future of Life Institute globally, of which our EU activities are a small part.

v) Our annual audit is in process, and FLI reserves the right to update these provisional figures once the audit has been completed.

vi) FLI is grateful for the one-off donation from Vitalik Buterin, which has helped us guarantee our independence and will partially serve as an endowment to finance activities in future years. The budget is simply the sum of all of our income, not what we spent in 2021. With the exception of the Estonian Skype co-founder Jaan Tallinn, who has served on FLI’s Board of Directors since its founding, donors do not influence our policy positions.
