ELFi tegevuse eesmärgiks on loodusliku mitmekesisuse säilitamine Eestis ja maailmas koostöös üksikisikute, ettevõtete, organisatsioonide ja riigiasutustega järgmiste tegevuste kaudu: ohustatud liikide ja nende elupaikade kaitsmine; Eestile omaste loodusmaastike ja koosluste säilitamine; loodusvarade säästlikule kasutamisele kaasaaitamine; keskkonnateadlikkuse suurendamine ühiskonnas; lahenduste otsimine tulevastele põlvedele puhta elukeskkonna säilitamiseks.
