    Communication activities

In 2013, UPTEC – U.Porto Science and Technology Park – was awarded the RegioStars Prize by the European Commission. This prize was the result of a joint application with the Commission for Coordination and Regional Development of the North (CCDR-N), which underlined the importance of the knowledge produced by U.Porto, through the promotion of technological entrepreneurship and the creation of innovation centres of national and international enterprises.
In 2016, the Metropolitan Area of Porto was recognised as a Reference Site in the field of Active and Healthy Ageing by the European Commission (European Innovation Partnership – Active and Healthy Ageing). The Porto4Ageing consortium, now a four-starred Reference Site and Partner Plus of the European Innovation Partnership and Healthy Ageing of the European Commission, brings together around 100 organisations, the large majority of them established within the Porto Metropolitan Area, in the Northern Region of Portugal. The partnership is built upon the quadruple helix approach – it involves different stakeholders (regional governments and health and care providers, academia and research, industry and civil society), which are in good position to drive structural changes far beyond the scope any one organization could achieve on its own, aiming to innovate and experiment in real world settings. Despite the different backgrounds, goals and actions, Porto4Ageing revolves around a shared vision and common targets, where each organisation actively contributes in a specific way to the overall goal of responding to the citizens' needs, specifically in matters related to active and health ageing in the Porto Region. This consortium was created to respond to the different issues related to an active and health ageing, backed by the objectives of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing of the European Commission.
Since 2020, U.Porto is a member of the the European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH), which is a strategic partnership between the Université Paris-Saclay (UPSaclay), Lund University (LU), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU), Universidade do Porto (UPorto) and the University of Szeged (USZ) in the context of the European Commission’s European Universities Initiative. Within the EUGLOH network, a balanced interfaculty consortium of researchers and students will develop interdisciplinary activities particularly in education and training related to Global Health. Combining expertise and scientific infrastructure in fields such as biomedicine, the life sciences and social sciences, our inter-campus project will tackle a variety of challenges related to well-being and public health.
U.Porto is very active in science communication and outreach. For example, U.Porto "Mostra" - science showcase week - register over 20 000 visitors every year, making the university closer to society and integrating it in the university's daily activities.

    Other activities

U.Porto participates in a diverse array of European networks (ERA-NETs), European Technology Platforms and European Innovation Partnerships.
