Goals / Remit
The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) is an international organization based in Munich, Germany, that represents the collective interest of the Uyghur people both in East Turkestan (also known as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Peoples Republic of China ‘PRC’) and abroad. The main objective of WUC is to promote the right of the Uyghur people to use peaceful, nonviolent, and democratic means to determine the political future of East Turkestan.
Main EU files targeted
The WUC performs some lobbying activities in relation to the EU and European Parliament. In particular, the WUC meets with MEPs to update them on the deteriorating situation in the Uyghur Autonomous Region and push for European action to alleviate their situation. The WUC is focused on EU foreign policy, particularly its relations with China. We advocate for human rights to be fully integrated in the EU's relations with China and for the Uyghur issue to be raised.

Other financial info
We are a member of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation (UNPO), who we work with closely in our activities in the European Parliament. Aside from a small membership fee, we do not pay UNPO for their advocacy work. The WUC only has one staff member in Brussels and the remaining accredited staff members are based in Munch. We are still working to establish our organisation in Brussels and expand on our activities in the European Parliament (after which our costs will be updated), but as it now stands, much of our activities are done with the help of UNPO, which has kept our costs low.

Communication activities
The World Uyghur Congress works with the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation to implement its advocacy strategy in the institutions of the European Union. With the help of UNPO, a Uyghur friendship group was formed this past October (2017). With the group as a network for action, we intend to organise a number of conferences on specific human rights violations against Uyghurs and try to raise greater awareness of the situation of the Uyghur people.
Other activities
The WUC has worked closely with elected representatives and international nongovernmental organisations to raise awareness of the plight of the Uyghur people.
