HelpAge engages actively in the debate about social protection in EU development cooperation. This has involved participating in the various consultations organised by the EC around the communication on this issue and organising events involving MEPs in collaboration with other civil society organisations.
HelpAge works with DG ECHO on the issue of older people in emergencies. This involves collaborative policy work, input to consultations and regular participation in ECHO partners events.
HelpAge is active in the field of Development Education and Awareness-Raising and we have been working with a number of our EU Affiliates to raise public awareness of issues around older people in development and to connect these members of the public to MEPs to build greater awareness and support for these issues within the European Parliament.
HelpAge is engaging at the global level on the process towards a post-2015 development framework. At the EU level, this involves linking with the team in DG DEVCO leading on this process, inputting to EC public consultation or other processes relating to this issue plus joint advocacy with civil society organisations at the EU level through CONCORD.
HelpAge is also working with its network of Affiliates across EU Member States to engage in the UN process towards a UN convention on the rights of older people and opening a dialogue with the EU institutions and Member States around older people's rights. This also involves contact with various stakeholders at EU level, including institutions as well as NGOs.- Meetings
