Goals / Remit
HelpAge's vision is of a world in which all older people can lead dignified, active, healthy and secure lives.
We work with our partners to ensure that people everywhere understand how much older people contribute to society and that they must enjoy their right to healthcare, social services and economic and physical security.
Over the past year, we directly reached 850,000 of the world's poorest or most vulnerable older people and their families with essential services such as healthcare, income generation, and emergency response. We worked in close partnership with more than 6,350 older people's associations active in their own communities.
We work to address the following issues that affect older people worldwide: Climate Change and disaster risk reduction, Emergencies, Health, Rights, Social Protection, Work and the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.Main EU files targeted
International development cooperation, humanitarian aid and human rights mainly in the EU's external action.

HelpAge engages actively in the debate about social protection in EU development cooperation. This has involved participating in the various consultations organised by the EC around the communication on this issue and organising events involving MEPs in collaboration with other civil society organisations.
HelpAge works with DG ECHO on the issue of older people in emergencies. This involves collaborative policy work, input to consultations and regular participation in ECHO partners events.
HelpAge is active in the field of Development Education and Awareness-Raising and we have been working with a number of our EU network members to raise public awareness of issues around older people in development and to connect these members of the public to MEPs to build greater awareness and support for these issues within the European Parliament.
HelpAge is engaging at the global level on ensuring inclusive implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda. At the EU level, this involves linking with the team in DG DEVCO leading on this process, inputting to EC public consultation or other processes relating to this issue plus joint advocacy with civil society organisations at the EU level including through the CONCORD platform.
HelpAge is also working with its network of members across EU Member States to engage in the UN process towards a UN convention on the rights of older people and opening a dialogue with the EU institutions and Member States around older people's rights. This also involves contact with various stakeholders at EU level, including institutions as well as NGOs.- Meetings
