The European Blind Union is actively working with European Institutions in
all areas of policy development that have an impact on the lives of blind
and partially sighted citizens. We respond to European Commission Green
papers and consultations and take part in stakeholder events organised by
the Commission; we also regularly publish position papers on issues that are
of importance to us in order to keep EU policy makers informed about the
challenges that blind and partially people face and how EU policy can
address these.
Our members work on a wide range of policy areas in order to influence
future EU policy so that blind and partially people can have access to equal
opportunities in employment and outside of employment; equal access to goods
and services; equal access to the information society and to culture,
including TV and radio; equal access to books and print media, equal access
to telecommunications, equal access to financial services (e.g. banking and
insurance) etc. We also take an interest in, inter alia, consumer rights,
copyright law, welfare rights (e.g. social security, disability benefits,
pensions), internal market policy (including e-commerce, public procurement
policy, public health and transport policy.- Meetings
