    Goals / Remit

The European Coalition for Corporate Justice (ECCJ) advocates for European laws that guarantee corporate accountability and transparency, and ensure justice for victims of corporate malpractice.

With 20 member groups representing over 450 organisations from 17 countries, ECCJ is the only European coalition bringing together campaigns and national platforms of NGOs, trade unions, consumer organisations and academics in order to promote corporate accountability. The coalition has been set up in 2006 and has established a coordination office in Brussels. Originally the legal entity was a foundation based in the Netherlands, but in 2018, ECCJ registered as a non-profit organisation (ASBL) under Belgian law.

We are guided by a vision of a sustainable world in which corporations’ drive for profit is balanced with the interests of society at large, and where businesses respect human, social and environmental rights.

    Main EU files targeted

Since the Commission published its proposal on February 2022, ECCJ work has focused mainly on the Proposal for a Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

    ECCJ also works on:

Proposal for a regulation on prohibiting products made with forced labour on the Union market, COM(2022) 453

Proposal for a Directive as regards corporate sustainability reporting COM(2021) 189 final

Proposal for a Regulation on deforestation-free products, COM(2021) 706 final

Directive (EU) 2019/633 on unfair trading practices in business-to-business relationships in the agricultural and food supply chain

Provisional agreement on EU-wide rules for the protection of collective interest of consumers

EU action against abusive litigation (SLAPP) targeting journalists and rights defenders

Proposal for a regulation concerning batteries and waste batteries, repealing Directive 2006/66/EC and amending Regulation (EU) No 2019/1020

EU action plan on human rights and democracy

Initiative on the Revision of the Union Customs Code

Generally, ECCJ targets policy instruments that relate to corporate accountability, access to justice and corporate transparency.
