    Goals / Remit

Civil Society Europe (CSE) brings together 22 European platforms and networks of civil society organisations (CSOs) working towards regenerating the European project around the shared values of equality, solidarity, inclusiveness and democracy. CSE's main objectives are to facilitate and enable horizontal and vertical dialogue between European CSOs and policymakers, and to help strengthen CSOs in terms of their activities and relations with the EU institutions. CSE’s mission also includes contributing to EU recognition of the essential role and value of independent and plural CSOs in building and nurturing a democratic society that is based on fundamental rights. CSE works to create the conditions for the development of a strong and independent civil society voice and an effective, open, and structured civil dialogue at the EU level, as well as a thriving and enabling civic space across the Union.

    Main EU files targeted

Civil Society Europe (CSE) works towards the promotion and implementation of structured civil dialogue at EU level. In this context, CSE follows: citizenship issues; the implementation and promotion of fundamental rights and the rule of law, in particular as they relate to civic space; issues that are of pertinence to the implementation of Article 11 of the TEU, and the recognition and role of civil society organisations, for instance in the review or definition of the EU agenda; and legislative proposals or policies such as the European Democracy Action Plan, the Defence of Democracy Package, the Multiannual Financial Framework, financial rules, the Anti-Money Laundering Package, the Transparency Register, the follow-up of the Conference on the Future of Europe, the European Recovery Package, 'RebuildUkraine', and the proposal for a European Association Statute.
