    Goals / Remit

    EFCNI is the first pan-European organisation and interactive network to represent the interest of preterm and newborn infants and their families.

    EFCNI intends to raise awareness on pre-conceptional, maternal and newborn health in society, among political stakeholders and public institutions.

    The foundation combines the strengths of scientists, experts and national parent organisations in order to:

    *Ensure the best possible start in life and care for preterm and newborn infants in Europe

    *Enable the medical, psychological and socio-pedagogical support of the concerned parents/ families

    *Promote research and the implementation of measures preventing preterm birth

    *Improve the long-term health of preterm and newborn infants

    PROMOTING PREVENTION:
    EFCNI aims to reduce the rate of preterm birth in Europe via:

    *Promotion of pre-conceptional, maternal and newborn health
    Improved information and education for expectant parents

    *Improved education and training for healthcare professionals active in the field of maternal and newborn health

    *Research projects

    ESTABLISHING A PAN-EUROPEAN NETWORK by:
    *Supporting the creation of national parents organisations

    *Providing easy to understand and widely accessible information for expecting and concerned parents and families throughout Europe

    *Providing access to a cross-border network for different groups of interest and bringing together the different stakeholders


    IMPROVING CARE by:
    *Initiating and promoting education and training for doctors, nursing staff, caring professions and parents

    *Suporting research projects in perinatology and neonatology

    *Encouraging cross-border exchange of knowledge and information


    GENERATING PUBLIC AWARENESS through:
    *Constructive dialogue with political decision-makers and other stakeholders

    *Intensive exchange with healthcare professionals

    *Providing a platform for discussion on ethical issues on preterm birth, its prevention and the best possible care of preterm and newborn infants

    *Targeted public relations and media work
