    Goals / Remit

ECIT Foundation (European Citizens’ Rights, Involvement and Trust) is a public foundation set up to work exclusively on concepts of European citizenship. Established as a public foundation under Belgian law on 3 June 2015. In the world of European think tanks, it fills a gap being the only one to concentrate solely on European citizenship. ECIT is becoming a resource of know-how, research, and contacts, but also one of support for civil society organisations, academics and policy makers when they work on this theme. So far, the foundation has to its credit a book 'Piecing together Europe’s Citizenship' published in English and French, five annual Summer Universities on European Citizenship in Brussels, many conferences, events and smaller projects as well as the Transeuropa Caravans - an EU project co-organized with European Alternatives and Political Critique.

This citizens’ think-tank brings together civil society activists, academics and policy makers to develop a cle...

    Complementary Information

None of the 12 persons involved are paid employees. A number of workers are graduates and so can benefit from the Erasmus+ grant scheme. The rest are volunteers.

This is the reason why our estimated annual cost is so low, compared to people involved in the representation.

Over half of the workers only cover tasks related to ECIT's 'Voters Without Borders' ECI - on full political rights for EU citizens.

Each trainee is involved for a varied amount of time. Turnover is high, however a replacement is always found.

At the moment we are recruiting volunteers who live in different member states in order to spread the ECI campaign.

    Other financial info

2020 funding from NECE and FNF largely was spent on Voters Without Borders ECI, however money was allocated for ECIT's Annual Conference and some other areas.

The budget was spent on event spaces, flyers, posters, Zoom, Howspace, Canva, Photoshop, stickers, trainings, website design, press releases, promotional videos, reporting documents.

Regarding employees, the budget was low for 2020 as there are no paid employees. All involved in representation activities are trainees receiving an Erasmus+ grant, or are volunteers.
