    Goals / Remit

    Founded in 1978, Mediaset S.p.A. is an integrated multi-platform TV operator (free/pay, linear and non-linear) and a multinational media group that has been listed on the Milan Stock Exchange since 1996. Its core business is commercial television broadcasting in Italy and Spain. As one of Europe’s most innovative multimedia production and distribution groups, Mediaset’s total employees amount to 5,559 (4.,299 in Italy and 1,260 in Spain) as of 31 December 2014.
    In Italy, Mediaset Group’s free to air offering currently consists of 11 channels (3 long-standing general interest channels – Canale 5, Italia 1, Rete 4 – and 8 thematic and semi-generalist channels - Boing, Cartoonito, Iris, La 5, Mediaset Extra, Italia 2, Top Crime and TgCom 24).
    Mediaset Premium, a pay linear service launched in 2005, provides customers with film channels, TV series, live football, children's programmes and documentaries. Premium Play is offered as a complementary VOD service to Mediaset premium subscribers. As of 1 December 2014, all of the pay TV activities have been transferred to a new company Mediaset Premium S.p.A., owned by Mediaset, through R.T.I., and Telefonica (11,11% stake).
    Through its fully-owned subsidiary R.T.I. S.p.A., Mediaset owns the most important television rights library in Italy, one of the largest in Europe.
    The Group’s free and pay linear TV offering is delivered through digital multiplexes owned by the subsidiary Elettronica Industriale, which manages contribution traffic to and from the various production centres of the parent company R.T.I. S.p.A. and Mediaset Premium S.p.A., using the infrastructure and services provided by EI Towers S.p.A., a 40.1% - owned subsidiary of the Group.
    On the internet and, specifically through the enhancement of and greater focus on activities linked to mobile devices, in 2014 Mediaset, through RTI Interactive Media, generated around 3 billion multimedia pages via the overall set of the properties managed: VideoMediaset video portal (www.video.mediaset.it), which enables users to access the vast majority of Mediaset free-to-air schedule both in full and clip mode (full episodes and thousands of TV programme clips, respectively), as well as ad-hoc programmes; the www.tgcom24.it all news website; the www.SportMediaset.it website; the www.meteo.it website.
    In 2013, the Mediaset Group launched Infinity: an innovative OTT platform that offers its customers the ability to access streaming from a catalogue of over 5000 titles including thousands of movies, TV series, dramas and TV programmes. On Infinity, all content is accessible in streaming and is therefore always available on-demand, without any time or schedule restrictions, on over 400 different device models, including: PC, Mac, Android tablet, iPad, smart TV, Smart phone, Playstation, XBOX and digital terrestrial decoders. Over the next year, the range of devices on which Infinity will be made available will be further expanded.
    Mediaset fully owns Medusa Film S.p.A., a major distribution company in Italy which produces and distributes Italian and foreign films in Italy, and is involved in cinema releases and the sale of television rights in all their various forms. In 2014 Medusa produced The Great Beauty, Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film.
    In Spain, Mediaset has a controlling interest (46% share) in Mediaset España Comunicación S.A., the holding company of the Spanish television group that owns the Telecinco television network, which began broadcasting in 1990.
    Mediaset España is one of the most profitable groups in the sector in Europe and the leading broadcaster in Spain in terms of viewers and advertising share with two main general interest channels (Telecinco and Cuatro) and a bouquet of six free-to-air thematic channels.
    Mediaset España is listed on the stock exchanges of Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Valencia.
