Goals / Remit
The European Food Banks Federation (FEBA) is a European non-profit organization and works in collaboration with 24 full members and 5 associate members in European countries. Since 1986, FEBA mission has consisted in representing its membership at European and international level, supporting and strengthening Food Banks in Europe by providing training, sharing best practice and knowledge, and developing partnerships, and fostering the creation of new food banks. FEBA brings together 421 Food Banks and branches which are committed to fight against food waste and to feed the most deprived. In 2018 our members redistributed 781,000 tons of food, equivalent to 4.3 million daily meals, to 9.3 million most deprived people through 45,700 charitable organizations thanks to the professionalism of 31,700 co-workers (85% volunteers). In addition to surplus food from the food supply chain, FEBA members also redistribute food from the Fund for European Aid to the most Deprived (FEAD) and the Fruits and Vegetables withdrawal scheme, as well as from individual donations.

The main aims of this EU Working Group consists in developing thematic expertise on EU topics and to facilitate the exchange of information and best practice between FEBA and its membership. During 2019, FEBA organized two EU Working Groups. The first one took place in Brussels on 18-19 July 2019 and focused on the new European leadership after the elections of May 2019 and the main challenges ahead especially regarding the new ESF+ and the Multi-Annual Financial Framework (MFF).
The second EU Working Group was organized in Strasbourg on 25 October 2019. The work started in July continued with a focus on FEAD and ESF+. Furthermore, FEBA EU Working Group was invited to attend the Annual Forum on Food Aid and Social Inclusion (Activity 1.6) held at the European Parliament in Brussels on 18 November 2019.

On 12 December 2019, FEBA presented these recommendations to the conference "Time' up for food waste! Setting the EU action agenda towards 2030" organized by DG Health and Food Safety, European Commission.
