On 22 December 2017 FEBA signed a Framework Partnership Agreement 2018-2021 (reference No VS/2017/0463) with the European Union, represented by the European Commission, within the European Union Programme for Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI).
In early 2018 FEBA Board of Directors decided to create a EU Working Group, coordinated by FEBA and composed of representatives from our membership who deal with European issues. The main aims of this EU Working Group consists in developing thematic expertise on EU topics and to facilitate the exchange of information and best practice between FEBA and its membership. During 2019, FEBA organized two EU Working Groups. The first one took place in Brussels on 18-19 July 2019 and focused on the new European leadership after the elections of May 2019 and the main challenges ahead especially regarding the new ESF+ and the Multi-Annual Financial Framework (MFF).
The second EU Working Group was organized in Strasbourg on 25 October 2019. The work started in July continued with a focus on FEAD and ESF+. Furthermore, FEBA EU Working Group was invited to attend the Annual Forum on Food Aid and Social Inclusion (Activity 1.6) held at the European Parliament in Brussels on 18 November 2019.
The work of the EU Working Group continued also in 2020, despite the situation caused by the outbreak of Covid-19 and the impossibility to organise meetings in person. Without loosing the quality of the meetings, FEBA organised in person the EU Working Group in February (Brussels) and 3 other online meetings in June, July and September 2020 to take stock of the situation especially as regards the new MFF and specifically REACT-EU, the future ESF+ and FEAD. Moreover, FEBA constantly update the EU Working Group with ad hoc reports, monthly policy monitoring report on issues of interest, briefing notes and breaking news.
FEBA participated in the meetings of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste (FLW) coordinated by DG Health and Food Safety, European Commission and took part in the meetings of the sub-groups on Food Donation and Action & Implementation.
In collaboration with FEBA EU Working group, FEBA drafted recommendations for action for food donation in order to prevent food waste. On 12 December 2019, FEBA presented these recommendations to the conference "Time' up for food waste! Setting the EU action agenda towards 2030" organized by DG Health and Food Safety, European Commission.
On 18 November 2019 FEBA organized the “Annual Forum on Food Aid and Social Inclusion. Dialogue between European institutions and concrete practices across Europe” at the European Parliament in Brussels with FEBA members, NGO partners, EU institutions representatives on subjects like social insertion in Food Banks and NGOs, FEAD impact and food aid. The impact was to share information about social impact of Food Banks and NGOs and the contribution to EU social protection and inclusion.
FEBA was selected as member of the Advisory Group in the project "Food redistribution in the EU: analysis of existing frameworks and dissemination opportunities" financed by European Commission, DG Health and Food Safety.
Moreover, FEBA is member of the Advisory Group of the FEAD Community and, together with its members, participated in the online annual conference of the FEAD Community which took place on 22-23 October 2020. On that occasion, FEBA released "FEAD and the European Food Banks Federation: 2019 Implementation Report".Other activities
